Several blood donors felicitated on World Blood Donor Day

Sangareddy:  Observing the World Blood Donors Day (WBDD), District Collector V Venkateshwarlu felicitated several blood donors, NGOs and organisations such as Red Cross Society and district health and medical department at the Collectorate on Thursday.

The Collector said donating the blood means nothing but saving a life of others who are in medical emergency as the blood is the lifeline which is essential for bodily functions. There is a pressing need of blood donation in the country and the proper usage of donated blood should also be monitored and a responsibility of the donors and officials as well, opined the CP who presented mementos to the donors. Every year on 14 June, countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day (WBDD). The event, established in 2004, serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products, and to thank blood donors for their voluntary, life-saving gifts of blood.

District president of Indian Red Cross Society Vanaja Reddy said they were conducting blood donation camps with the collaboration of Rotary Club, Lion’s Club and other NGOs and established blood banks at Jaheerabad and Sangareddy hospitals to provide blood for the needy. President of Youth Associations of the districts Venu Gopal described the blood donors were demigods to the beneficiaries. DMHO Rathod, District Central Hospital Superintendent Murari, Rotary Club president Anjaiah, representatives of Lions Club and NGOs and several donors participated in the programme.
