Hyderabad: Recently the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) had launched 20 E-Vehicles to replace with diesel and petrol vehicles. Though the e-vehicles were inaugurated in the first week of June the department is yet to install charging points at all the GHMC circle and zonal office.

The e-vehicles are at low cost of ownership, saves fuel from Rs 80,000 to Rs 1 Lakh per annum, low maintenance cost as less number of moving parts and these E-Vehicles are of less noise pollution.
During the launch of e-vehicles, an agreement was signed between GHMC and EESL in which it is said that EESL would ensure the EVs, provide a comprehensive free annual maintenance contract (AMC) for a period of five years and warranty against manufacturing defects, and supply and install chargers at GHMC’s Circle and Zonal offices.

When enquired about the same subject, E Srinivasa Chary, Executive Engineer of Electrical in GHMC said that the e-vehicles are already in use by the GHMC officials, but we are yet to install chargers in GHMC circle and zonal office because of which we are using normal three pin plug chargers to charge the vehicles. He added that within a week’s time we will receive the chargers from Mumbai.

Srinivasa said that there were two DC chargers and eight AC chargers which would be installed, each DC charger costs around Rs 1.5 lakh and AC charger costs around Rs 50,000. He also said that the GHMC had identified places for parking these e-vehicles and charge them.
