Tandur:  Engineers of the Mission Bhagiratha have adopted latest technological methods while laying the drinking water project pipelines through river beds, beds of streams and underneath the culverts.  The project works in the division, taken up at a cost of Rs 342 crore, aimed to provide drinking water facility to 161 villages in the division and 35 wards of the Tandur town are coming to a head.

Water from Srisailam project hinterland would be brought to water purification center under construction at Japarpalli in Vikarabad district through Nagarkurnool district. In Tandur division, drinking water pipelines under the Mission should be laid up to a distance of 604 km. But, pipelines could be laid up to a distance of 590 km. The rest of the terrain posed challenges for the engineers as it passes through rivers and streams. The engineers encountered a major challenging in laying the pipelines of various dimensions through the bed of River Kagna near Kokat in Yalala mandal of Tandur division.

They have to lay the pipelines for a distance of 86 meters through the river bed. They struggled for about a month working hard day and night to sink cement and concrete pillars in the river bed up to a depth of over three meters. The pipelines were fixed in these structures so that even if the river were to be in floods there would be no glitch in drinking water supply. Later, they spread the sand evenly.

The water grid executive engineer Narender said that 93 per cent of the total works were successfully executed. The pipelines were laid through sinking system. The pipelines will remain unaffected even if flood were to occur. Therefore, there will be no disruption in water supply. Works pertaining to linking the pipelines to the adjacent Kokat and Raghavapur villages resumed. He exuded confidence that drinking water would be supplied to all villages within the time stipulated.
