‘Revenue dept must intervene to resolve SC/ ST land disputes’
Vikarabad: District Collector Sayyad Omar Jaleel assured the SC and ST Commission that steps would be put in place to rule out atrocities on SCs and STs and maintained that the District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee (DVMC) meeting would be held regularly once in three months.
He was taking part in the DVMC meeting held at Collectorate here on Wednesday. SC and ST Commission chairman Yerrola Srinivas graced the meeting as the chief guest. He told the commission that compensation would be paid as early as possible to the victims of atrocities against the SCs and STs. Pending cases of atrocities against the SCs and STs would also be resolved, he assured the commission.
Parigi MLA Rammohan Reddy and his Vikarabad counterpart Sanjeeva Reddy told the commission that land disputes constitute major chunk of the cases involving the SCs and STs and wanted the police to resolve the cases in association with revenue machinery. Besides the four commission members, district SP P Annapurna, joint collector Aruna Kumari, Vikarabad district Dalit Associations leaders Anantayya, district welfare officer Kotaji, SC corporation executive director Babu Moses, SC welfare officer Vijayalakshmi and others took part in the meeting.
