Chandanagar nalas turning illegal dump yard for construction debris

Chandanagar: With massive construction work taking place at Chandanagar, empty plots, road pavements and nalas have become dump yards for the constructions debris. The ward dotted with skyrise buildings, villas, gated communities and colonies, the nalas are plagued with ‘illegal’ dumping of the debris. Take for instance the Ameenpur Road where the Chandanagar nala is carpeted with construction debris completely blocking the sewerage water flow.

Wastage like concrete, granite, sand is dumped into the drain. The debris also raise the dust levels in the area thereby increasing the pollution levels in the air. Shilpa colony, FCI colony, Ameenpur, Gnaganram are the most affected by the dust pollution and the GHMC remaining blind to the menace.  “I don't know what the intentions are, are they trying to occupy the nala illegally,” said Shiva Kumar, who runs a tea stall nearby.

Even though a majority of roads in the ward have been re-carpeted with bitumin and are well-maintained, a 2-km-long road between Kukatpally and Chandanagar lies in ruins and has remained unfit for several years for commuting. ‘The artillery road, which allows a detour during peak hours and important for traffic flowing from Chandanagar, Hafeezpet, KPHB, and Miyapur to Hi-Tec City, is not serviceable,” said Vuppala Gopala    Rao, a representative of state council of Senior Citizen’s Committee. “It is prone to accidents. Besides, there are no functional street lights on the stretch, he added.
