IUML refutes allegations of fake cheque to Rohith Vemula’s family

Hyderabad: While condemning the allegations of Union Minister Piyush Goyal that Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) handed over ‘fake cheque’ to the bereaved family of University of Hyderabad (UoH) research scholar Rohith Vemula, the party held that it was a ‘clerical error’ and its student wing Muslim Youth League (MYL) made amends as soon as the family informed them.

Speaking to The Hans India, the IUML (TS) general secretary, Abdul Gani informed that the party’s national president K M Kader Mohideen took strong note of it and felt that the BJP was indulging in Goebbels tactics to gain political mileage. He asked if the Piyush Goyal would say the same about Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath who had gifted a cheque to a meritorious student that bounced. 

The leader was referring to an instance reported earlier this month when a cheque of Rs 1 lakh handed over to the student by Adityanath bounced and the recipient's father had to pay a penalty. "Cheque bouncing is not a sin, nor is it an unpardonable crime! It happens often because of human error. Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath's cheque bounced! Does the Union minister (Piyush Goyal) say that it is a fake cheque?” he said. 

While Rohith's mother has clarified this and also denied the BJP's allegation that the money was intended to get her to speak against the party. “As far as IUML is concerned, there is not even a modicum of truth in the statement of the Union Minister that IUML had exploited Vemula’s death for political gains. IUML cherishes the ideals of communal harmony, national integration and unity. To be precise and open hearted, the national committee of the IUML is quite unaware of this entire episode. If Muslim Youth League had promised to donate Rs 20 Lakh of rupees to Vemula’s family, it will certainly be fulfilled by the youth league,” said Abdul Gani, quoting party’s national president.
