‘Eruvaka Pournami’ celebrated on a grand note
Zaheerabad: ‘Eruvaka saagaaro.. Anno chinnanna..’ , a popular song from ‘Rojulu Marayi’ movie is still reflecting farming practices in Telugu states, though it was conceived almost six decades back. Farming community annually celebrates ‘Eruvaka Pournami’ that symbolises arrival of monsoon. They initiate the preparations for cultivation from collecting seeds to get cattle ready for farm work.
The practice of preserving seeds in cow dung is still relevant in some parts of Telangana. They offer special prayers to rain god and decorate their cattle with garlands. Farmers of Jharasangam, Nyalkal, Kohir and Mogudampally mandals on Thursday decorated their houses and cows with garlands. They offered prayers and prasadam to the cows.
EO Mohan Reddy offered special pujas to cows at Kethaki Sangameswara Swami Gowshala. Sri Dattagiri Maharaj Ashram at Bardipur and Adilakshmi Temple at Nyalkal also offered special pujas to cows. EO performed special pujas at Badampet Sri Rachanna Swami Temple of Kohir mandal.
