Sec’bad Cantt residents protest against water bills

Netaji Nagar: The residents of the Secunderabad Cantonment assembled at the Netaji Nagar Community Hall as part of ‘Basti Nidra’ campaign that started last week to alert the officials of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) on civic issues.

The residents, about 200 mostly women complained about the huge water bills slapped by the SCB. Indira, a resident of Bolarum said, “Many received water bills of Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000. We want the water bill arrears to be waived off and Rs 165 to be collected per month.”

When contacted, the officials of Water Wing of SCB said that in some cases residents did not pay their bills for years but there have also been typing errors. There is a scheme under which people can get their illegal connections also regularized. A slum dweller ha sto pay Rs 3,000 and others Rs 8,500. There are 41,000 connections in SCB limits out of which 10,000 are illegal.
