Golkonda: Ashada Jatara Bonalu is just a fortnight away and preparations by the State government are moving at a snail’s pace.

The Mahankali temple at Golkonda fort is not yet painted, the walkways and stairs are slowly being repaired.

The renovation works at Darbar Hall of the fort was to be completed before July 15, however, the workers at the site say that it might take a few more months to finish the work.

Only a portion of terrace hall has been completed by now, while the graffiti and engravings on the inner walls of lower hall have not yet been removed.

The Mahankali Temple on the fort is waiting for adornments, a priest from the temple said, “Most of the paint on the boulders is withered away with the seasons.

Every year government takes responsibility to paint the temple, but this year no official showed up.” like the fort walls, boulders of temple are also defaced by the writings and carvings of visitors, especially couples who showcase their love on walls and boulders.

Devotees begin preparation

On Tuesday, devotees at the Golkonda Mahankali temple were busy painting their brass pots with turmeric and vermilion as part of preparation for the festival of thanksgiving.

Vajramma said “Very soon the fort will be thronged by devotees, like every year we start preparation a few weeks before the festival.”

Not just the visitors, the craftsmen at Karwan are busy creating Thottilu or decorative towers presented that are presented to the goddess as a mark of respect.
