Falaknuma: Following sanction of more than Rs 4 crore from GHMC, the authorities have taken up the civil works at the faster pace towards improving the drainage system in the Jangammet area, while minimizing inconvenience to the local populace.
A major project which covers more than half-a-kilometer from Limra colony station road to GM Chauni, which includes the works of ‘retaining wall and construction of a culvert’ on nala was started about a week with a sanction of Rs 4.2 crore. Md Abdul Rahman, Jangammet area corporator (which comes under Chandrayanagutta Constituency), said that the development works in area has been in progress and some of the works has been completed recently. “A major work of retaining wall and a culvert works is in progress which is nearly 600 mts, with an estimated cost of Rs 4.20 cr,” he said.
Earlier, due to improper network of drainage system the people in the locality faced lot of inconvenience like overflowing drains. Following the official sanction to the works, several development works are now being taken up in Jangammet by civic authorities. Chitti Babu Assistant Engineer (AE) of Jangammet (ward 45) informed that some works as part of development in area were recently taken up. Works laying of CC Road has been recently done at the cost of Rs 13 lakh and was completed within 5 days. “SW (Stone Ware) drain pipe line work in GM Chauni is in progress which will be completed in 4-5 days.
The pending patchwork will be completed with Rs 20 lakhs. And also works related to Nala in Shivganga Nagar will be started shortly, which is more than a 1km stretch and with a sanction amount of Rs 3.5 cr and the work will begin once the tender process is over,” he said. Meanwhile in the Amin colony. the residents were facing hardships as works have been delayed. Md Hamed, an owner of Kirana store in the Colony, said that the work of SW Drain pipe line near Falaknuma bridge is pending since more than 6 months and there was no sign of work being taken up in the coming days.
“With the material meant for construction piled up on the roadside, the parking space has been reduced and the location has become a place of regular traffic jams during the peak hours,” he lamented. The GHMC officials have blamed the delay on contractor, as work was started several days ago but still remains pending. Other works of estimated Rs 30 lakhs near Falaknuma are pending for the past three months.
