Pendency ex-gratia due to electrocution on the rise
Medak: The number of pending cases of ex-gratia for death and injuries sustained due to electrocution of human beings as well as animals is growing in united Medak.
Fed up with the slow pace of work, the district and sessions judge cum chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Medak at Sangareddy took up suo moto action and issued notices to the officials of TSSPDCL, Telangana State and all the officials working in the unit of unified Medak District calling upon them to report about the number of cases pending with the department for grant of ex-gratia for the death / injuries of human beings and animals due to electrocution and hanging live wires. The officials were directed to report the number of cases that were pending for grant of ex-gratia, to furnish the details of remedial steps taken by the department to avoid unforeseen incidents and the action initiated against the erring officials.
After the issuance of notice, the asst divisional engineer immediately took up the case after a newspaper published a report and the family of the deceased was sanctioned ex-gratia of Rs.8 lakh. The authorities furnished the bank passbook, relevant entries which reflect the payment of Rs.7 lakh in the bank account of the deceased’s daughter who is her legal heir and also Xerox copies of two cheques for Rs7 lakh and Rs 1 lakh each. The reports furnished by the officials disclosed the number of consumers, KV Sub Stations, Power Transformers, electrification of villages, hamlets.
The officials in their reports stated that precautionary measures like insertion of middle poles in loose spans, replacement of damaged poles, rectification of stay sets/ bent poles, replacement of damaged / worn out conductor, restringing of loose spans, rectification of worn out earthing of DTRs, replacement of damaged broken insulators and rectification of defective AB switches were taken up by the department immediately. As per the statistics with the department, the number of cases that are pending for grant of ex-gratia for the death / injuries due to electrocution of human beings as well as animals is as follows.
