Four more residential schools for BCs on the anvil
Vikarabad: The TRS government decided to start four residential schools for the BCs in the district from next academic year onwards. It may be recalled that it started five Mahatma Jyotiba Phule residential schools last year for students of backward classes. In addition, the government has plans to set up four more at the rate of one for each Assembly constituency from next year onwards.
The residential schools for BCs will be set up in the Assembly constituencies of Vikarabad, Tandur, Parigi and Kodangal. Admissions will be allowed in classes 5, 6 and 7 and each section will have an intake of 40 students and each class will have two sections. The state government is contemplating to ensure that each and every mandal will have at least one residential school. It may be recalled that it has set up residential schools for SC, ST, BC and minority students so far. It is preparing an action plan to gradually increase the number of residential schools by each of government departments like SC welfare, ST welfare and BC welfare and minority welfare departments.
The Mahatma Jyotiba Phule residential schools for BCs are currently functioning from rented premises. But the students of the residential schools are facing many problems for want of infrastructure and basic amenities in rented premises. Last year, the BC residential school proposed to be set up in Yalal and Vikarabad, for want of own premises, operated from a private school on the outskirts of Tandur.
Recently, the residential school meant for Vikarabad has been shifted from the private school. The residential schools meant for BC girls to be set up in Parigi and Borampura have been functioning from a private rented building on the outskirts of Parigi. Last year, the authorities enrolled 1303 students last year in classes 5,6 and 7. This year 1200 girls more are enrolled in the school.
