Musheerabad: Local MLA Dr K Laxman on Tuesday expressed his ire at the official machinery for attempting to convert Indira Park into a dumping yard by its ‘thoughtless actions’.

He directed officials to remove within a week from the park the dumped trunks of trees, while calling for efforts to save the park with great history.

The MLA held a review meeting on the problems of Indira Park attended by corporator Lasya Nandita, GHMC Standing Committee Member V Srinivas Reddy and GHMC officials.

The Indira Park Walkers’ Association submitted a representation and explained about the problems to Dr Laxman. They sought additional spare parts for the open jeeps used in the park, utilisation of walking track, opening of a swimming pool and latrines, besides steps to increase greenery.

Later, the legislator along with officials inspected trees in the burnt area of the park. He asked officials to beautify the park working in coordination, while directing them to complete the works raised at the meeting within ten days.

GHMC Zonal Commissioner Raghu Prasad asked officials to initiate immediate action on solving the issues raised at the meeting.

He stated that steps would be taken within a week to ten days to shift the tree trunks both from the park and the dumping yard and to prevent recurrence of such incidents.

He said about 1,000 saplings, including those with medicinal value, were being planted to increase the park’s greenery.

Srinivas Reddy assured the meeting that action would be taken to solve the problems facing the park. He said the standing committee would hold discussions on machinery and other items required for the park.
