Plea to recognise Kummaras as priests with honorarium

Musheerabad: The Telangana Kummara Sangham on Tuesday urged the TRS government to issue GO providing honorarium to young persons, belonging to the community after recognising them as priests at the temples of local goddesses (gramadevatas).

Raising the plea at the Kummarula Bonala Jatara at  Sundarayya Vignana Kendram, sangham president Nadikudi Jayanthi Rao wanted the government to take steps allowing persons belonging to the community to offer the first ‘Bonam’ to the deity in every village across the State.

Speakers at the jatara demanded allotment of 100 per cent subsidised tools to Kummaras for continuing their profession of pottery, allocation of land for building a Kummara Bhavan in Hyderabad, shifting of the community from BC-B to BC-A and provision of pensions to aged persons practising pottery.

They thanked the Telangana government for setting up Kummara training centres for youth.
