Mansoorabad: TDP Rangareddy district president Sama Ranga Reddy alleged that GHMC officials’ apathy resulted in non-development of Mansoorabad tank. He said that due to their negligence walking track worth Rs 90 lakh constructed around the tank caved in with a few rain spells. Sama along with party leaders after visiting the tank, criticised the authorities for not maintaining Bathukamma Kunta, where Bathukamma immersion took place every year, and has been rendered useless for festivities.

The TDP leader said that the 16-acre tank now has been reduced to 10 acres due to encroachments. He said that due to the inflow of drainage water into the tank it spreads foul smell and there was a rise in diseases among the locals. Sama demanded diversion of drainage water. The leader said that if the diversion was not possible, construction of Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) at the tank should be taken up immediately.

He warned of staging protests at GHMC office if the works were not started soon. When contacted, local corporator Koppula Vittal Reddy said that Rs 7.3 crore was sanctioned for the beautification and they would inaugurate works worth Rs 1.90 crore on war-footing basis.

He agreed that the inflow of drainage water from surrounding colonies into the tank was a cause of concern. The corporator assured to divert drainage water from entering in to the tank. Vittal also assured on reconstruction walking track. The corporator said that they would complain to local police on anti-social activities and encroachments near the tank.
