Tandur: Over 100 sanitation, electrical and water supply department workers on Thursday called on municipal commissioner Bhogeswarlu and poured out their tale woe on account of going without wages for over four months.
They told the civic official that they are not able to make the both ends meet. Paying school fee and buying books and uniforms for their wards has become difficult. Clarifying on the issue, Bhogeswarlu said that the workers sans wages for three months, but not four months as claimed by them.
Earlier, contractor used to pay them the wages. Now the contractor system has been phased out. Earlier, the workers have been asked to form a group of seven and open a bank account so that the civic body deposits their wages in the bank account. But they did not pay heed to the advice, he pointed out.
