RTC losing business to OIa, Uber

Musheerabad: The TSRTC is suffering heavy losses because of the operation of the OIa and Uber cab services in the twin cities. The loss would increase if the RTC services were linked to the Hyderabad Metro Rail, claimed RTC employees’ Union here on Thursday. 

Union leaders Babu and K Raji Reddy told a press conference that the organisation would welcome the RTC managing director’s attempts to link RTC with Metro for improving the public transport facilities, which would benefit both organisations. They pointed out that there was a likelihood of the citizens opting for more private vehicles for transportation. 

However, the leaders stated that encouragement to private vehicles would amount to giving a boost to the private sector, harming the public transport facilities, while expressing anxiety. Hence, they stated that steps should be taken not to link private vehicles with Metro. The leaders said the union was strongly opposed to the Metro Rail MD’s proposal of introducing a common card for private vehicles.
