GHMC demolishes 60 shops at Hongkong bazar
Secunderabad: With Greater Hyderabad Municipality Corporation (GHMC) going all over to remove the encroachments in the city, on Friday the enforcement wing demolished 60 shops at Hongkong Bazar in Secunderabad. The entire shops were removed, on the same lines the 150 shops in various areas in GHMC were demolished, said Vishwajeet Kampati, director, Vigilance & Enforcement Cell.
The GHMC has taken up anti-encroachment drive especially on footpaths in the recent past. More than 6,000 streets have been freed from encroachments for the convenience of the pedestrians. The encroachers who set up shops after being removed, have been demolished again and with fines up to Rs 10,000 imposed on each shop.
So far around Rs 5 lakh have been collected through the fines on the encroachers. The GHMC has already announced that vendors making repeated encroachments would face severe action. Criminal cases would be filed against them and their trade licenses will be cancelled for the repeated land grabbing acts.
