Mandakrishna Madiga demands review of SC ruling on SC, ST Act

Update: 2018-07-14 05:30 IST

Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti (MRPS) founder-president Mandakrishna Madiga on Friday demanded a review of the Supreme Court ruling given on March 20 on the SC, ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act which, he felt, watered down the law.

Addressing a meeting of Dalit associations in Suraram, he alleged that there was the hand of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the SC ruling. The meeting was held to press the demand for continuing the Act unchanged and to make the ‘Simhagarjana’ rally in New Delhi on August 8 by Dalits a grand success. He wanted ten Dalits and Girijans from every village to participate in the rally.

Mandakrishna demanded to know the Centre’s stand on the SC ruling and whether BJP president Amit Shah, should announce whether he was supporting or opposing it. Referring to the BJP’s plan for coming to power in Telangana, he warned that if the SC ruling was not reviewed Dalits would give their reaction through ballots. The MRPS leader pointed out that the BJP would do well to take steps for ‘not losing power rather than dreaming of forming government in Telangana’.
