BC leaders call on Prez, seek constitutional amendment for quota

LB Nagar: Seeking constitutional validity to BCs quota in panchayat and local body elections, National Backward Classes Welfare Association president R Krishnaiah along with Association leaders met President of India Ramnath Kovind at New Delhi on Saturday.

They requested the President to give orders with respect to bringing a constitutional amendment bill in forthcoming Parliament session to constitute BC reservation on basis of population, Krishnaiah said in a press release on Sunday. The amendment would remove the insecurity feeling among BCs and injustice to them, He explained.

Krishnaiah said that the President assured them of looking into the issue and would issue an order to Central cabinet at the earliest. Association leaders Gujja Krishna, N Venkata Ramana Babu, Harikishan, Bhupesh Sagar were present.
