Kapra: The Government Hospital at Suryanagar in Mallapur division, established in 2001 is turning to be a boon for the poor. For a change the hospital is offering services matching those being provided by corporate ones. Residents of various colonies in Kapra are more than happy to avail the facilities being extended.

The hospital doctors are being revered thanks to their yeoman services to the poor and underprivileged people. No wonder that each day around 100-150 persons make a bee line at the outpatient department.

Reports of the results are given after three days. The hospital also conducts medical tests for pregnant women every Monday, general OP every Tuesday and Thursday, vaccination for children every Wednesday.

Residents of several colonies have appealed to the government to set up an operation theatre for pregnant women, besides posting three more doctors. They informed THI that because of absence of operation theatre they were being forced to go to Gandhi Hospital, Secunderabad.

Dr Venkatesh of the hospital said every resident should avail the facilities being offered at the hospital. He said 20-25 deliveries were being done every month. KCR kits worth Rs 14,000 for newborn girls and Rs 13,000 for boys were being offered at the hospital. Special vehicles have been introduced under the ‘Ammabadi scheme’ for shifting women to their houses after deliveries.

The hospital has been conducting health camps in slums in Nehrunagar, Ashoknagar, Old Mallapur, Suryanagar, Bank Colony and Gokulnagar for detecting dengue, malaria and distributing medicines.

Mallapur corporator Pannala Devender Reddy told THI that the hospital was being run to compete with corporate health institutions. He said a representation has been submitted to the health minister to increase the bed strength to 50 from the present 11.

According to Reddy, more doctors and staff would be appointed. Another building would be allotted to the hospital as part of its expansion plans.
