Rescued panther on recovery path at zoo

  • A team from Nehru Zoological Park was rushed to trap the wild cat after receiving information

Bahadurpura: A team from Nehru Zoological Park rescued a female panther, which was trapped in a snare in Banswada forests on Monday.

The animal which is out of danger is being fed and remains in enclosure of the city zoo.  

According to zoo authorities, after receiving information the zoo rescue team led by Dr MA Hakeem, Assistant Director (Veterinary) of Nehru Zoological Park rushed to the spot and rescued the panther safely by way of ‘chemical immobilization’.

The panther which is rescued is about less than a year-old female. She was trapped in a snare in Banswada Reserve Forest close to Basupally Thanda. The leopard suffered injuries in the right forelimb.

After the rescue, the canine was given primary treatment and rushed to the veterinary hospital in Nehru Zoological park in the night hours on Monday. 

“At present, she is under medical care and supervision of the veterinarians of Nehru Zoological Park. The condition of the panther is static and is eating well.

Since the time she has come to Nehru Zoological Park, she has consumed milk and chicken.

We request all to pray for her speedy recovery and appeal to the public to not indulge into putting snares or any activity to harm the wildlife,” said the officials.
