TRS finds Prem Singh a strong contender for Goshamahal seat

Update: 2018-07-18 05:30 IST

  • The current MLA is Raja Singh from BJP
  • Prem Singh is a two-time MLA from the area before delimitation

Goshamahal: The Telangana Rastra Samithi’s (TRS) search for a strong contender against BJP MLA T Raja Singh for the next Assembly elections seems to be over, as Prem Singh Rathore is believed to have backing of party’s top leadership.

He enjoys a considerable support in the constituency, given the fact that he earlier won from the Maharajgunj (now Goshamahal after delimitation) Assembly constituency not once but twice.

According to TRS sources, Prem Singh who jumped over to TRS from BJP in 2016 has been active ever since he joined in the party and was later made as chairman of Musi River Front Development Corporation.

He is a two-time legislator from Maharajgunj Assembly constituency, which after delimitation was named as Goshamahal. The seat falls under Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency.

The constituency on the banks of Musi is also termed as mini India as people from all parts of India stay there and has unique demography.

For the past several decades, the constituency is dominated by the north Indian migrants. Prem Singh was MLA from BJP, who for a brief period also served in TDP and recently after formation of Telangana joined TRS.

Locals say that he would be strong contender against incumbent Raja Singh because he has good support locally and has roots in North India. “He served as MLA from the area two times and has got followers with him.

He could prove to be tough contender against Raja Singh, who represents BJP. Given the fact that he is a chairman of Musi River Front Development Corporation, he can take on the current MLA on developmental plank,” said a local leader.

The speculation gets backing by the fact that the TRS’s local office will be inaugurated by top leadership including Deputy C M M Mahmood Ali, Home Minister Naini Narsimha Reddy, Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav Garu, Minister Padma Rao, P Srinivas Reddy Gosha Mahal Incharge on Wednesday in Kolsawadi.
