Hyderabad: IT company invites employees for a meeting and lays off over 100 employees within a few minutes. The incident happened recently at CDK global (India) Hyderabad, where over 100 employees were fired, without any prior notice. The company justifies the ‘mass termination’ with a statement ‘role redundancies’.

Forum of IT Professionals (FORIT) claims that laws have been violated by the company as defined in the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 the employer must provide a notice period of 30 days or payment with the reasons for termination and severance compensation of 15 days for every year worked or a part thereof in excess of six months. Notice must also be given to the government by seeking permissions from the Labour department with the validation of Labour Commissioner.

“Employees were invited for a meeting and threatened to give resignation within minutes. Employees were given no paper proof as a form of resignation letter or leaving document, their access were blocked, ID cards were taken away, leaving no clue,” said Praveen from FORIT. He added the company management has skillfully plotted these redundancies, since there are no paper proofs of resignation or termination, case cannot be filed with the labour department.

FORIT also claims that the number of cases of redundancies and termination have been frequented with the passing time. Praveen said “This month we have revived over a 100 different cases from across the city. Most of them can be blamed for violating the labour laws of the Indian Government.
