Customers hoodwink GHMC officials by hiding plastic in jute bags
Secunderabad: The massive awareness campaign against the plastic usage by the authorities seems to have gone in vain at Monda Market. In an attempt to hood wink the officials of sanitation, heath department and GHMC, many customers were seen with jute or cotton bags in which various vegetables were packed in illegal plastic bags. The plastic bags less than 50 microns were being sold vegetable vendors at the market.
Both the customers and the vendors are equally responsible for violation of plastic norms. The idea of carrying plastic bags hidden in a cotton or jute bag came up when customers were finding it difficult to segregate different kinds of vegetables put in a single bag. “It is easy to segregate few vegetables large in size but what about beans, mirchi, peas etc. It is a time-consuming task,” said N Hemalatha, a housewife.
Another customer said, “I, being a working member, it is hard for me to get time to segregate the vegetables and place them separately. Like many others I am forced to purchase plastic bags for convenience.” Meanwhile, the vegetable vendors having surplus plastic illegal bags are free to supply them to the public. One of the vendors claimed, “It is difficult to get away from the regular practice at once. However, we do not provide vegetables to the customers who deny having the plastic bag.”
