Corporator Srinivas accuses contractor of swindling funds

Musheerabad: City Grandhalaya Samstha chairperson Prasanna and Ramnagar Srinivas Reddy on Friday called upon the youth to make use of libraries for which the TRS government was devoting special attention.

Speaking after visiting the library in Gemini Colony, which was being developed as a model institution after the completion of repairs at a cost of Rs 9 lakh, they stated that the government was modernising libraries in the city, under a Rs 1.5 crore scheme. The corporator and local residents who were present accused the contractor of resorting to swindling funds by only taking up minor or name-sake repairs in the library, while expressing dismay.

Srinivas announced that steps were being taken to encourage Anganwadi workers to visit libraries for which special books were being arranged there. He said members of We Are for Telangana NRI Trust were offering assistance for taking up development works. He announced that a mini-library for children in the Gemini Colony library would be inaugurated by the district collector. Following an appeal by the corporator, an NRI, Arshanapalli Rajesh Kumar, handed over a cheque for Rs 1 lakh to Prasanna. Among those present were Grandhalaya Samstha secretary Suresh, director Penta Reddy, Devender, Padmaja Nageswara Rao, Lingamani.
