Vijaynagar Colony: Not so long ago, when someone said that he or she lived in Vijaynagar Colony it was taken as ‘The’ address to be in, but not anymore. Thanks to the lack of maintenance of basic amenities, the colony has deteriorated to deplorable levels. Garbage is scattered along the roadside, potholes abound and lack of toilets resulting in people relieving themselves openly on footpaths.

Municipal Park awaits attention The municipal park in the area is devoid of greenery. “The bore well is not working, walkways are in bad condition and trees are dried up. Nobody cares about this park anymore,” said a worker Komarsamma. For the past four years there has been no plantations at the park. The park portrays a forlorn look. A resident of the area, Mohammed said “Kids playing equipment is damaged and has been not repaired which resulted in less number of visitors.”

Construction waste lies everywhere

The construction debris piles up close to GHMC garbage bin in the area. While in some places it is lined along the corner of roads. For instance, there is heaps of waste next to Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) college area in Vijaynagar Colony. Also, a garbage bin beside Owaisi Park is also surrounded by the construction waste. Residents in the area say that it has to be cleared by GHMC.

Bad roads

The internal roads in Vijaynagar Colony are full of potholes. “The asphalt has not been replaced in years. The potholes which are filled up after filing several complaints is again tattered in a few weeks. The GHMC must find a permanent solution for this pothole problem, since it is proving riskyto commuters and creating traffic jams.”

No public toilets

Men continue to relieve themselves on the road near the walls of Vijaynagar Colony Government School and Veterinary institute. Moreover, there are no toilets for the visitors at Mandal Revenue Office (MRO) Asif Nagar. The school principal Suresh Kumar has filed several complaints but to no avail. While Swachh Hyderabad took an initiative to install public toilets in the city, yet Vijaynagar Colony has no toilets.

Hygiene-less swimming pool

The GHMC multipurpose sports complex at Vijaynagar Colony houses various sporting clubs and invites hundreds of visitors every day. However, the swimming pool inside the complex is in a mess since there are no bathing rooms. “Bathing halls are a matter of concern since hundreds of swimmers visit the pool every day and no hygiene is maintained. It could lead to skin diseases. Hygiene should be a primary concern at swimming pools,” said Sri Hari, a sportsman.
