Air pollution cause of health issues for Devender Nagar Colony residents

Uppal: Around 1,000 households located at Devender Nagar Colony in Uppal Kalan have been facing health issues because of the air pollution caused by the emissions of factories here for years. “The underdeveloped colony consists of mostly middle-class people who go for their respective jobs. Most of the households are empty as even women go for work but after so much of hard work when we return to our home we are not able to take a fresh peaceful breath because of the pollution, say residents of the colony.

The continuous emissions from factories due to combustion of fossil fuels create toxic pollutants like carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. It is the high-levels of emissions which is the cause of concern. General secretary of Devendar Nagar Colony Association Zeenat Begum a long-time resident, said, “From elders to small, even 5-year-old child is suffering from headache, stomach ache and vomiting. Zeenat said that with the support of colony residents, she wants to stop pollution causing factories. Laxma Reddy, a resident said, “My child who is only 12-year-old is suffering from headache, fever and vomiting.

Air pollution from these factories affected the health of those who are living in the surrounding areas. Association members with residents have also staged dharna near the factories but nothing has changed. The foul smell in the air forced the colony residents to shut their home doors and cover their noses. The Municipal Corporation Officials said, “We have to look into this matter seriously, and if the factories are illegal and causing pollution, we will take action.”
