Secunderabad Cantonment Board hikes water tanker tariff

Update: 2018-07-28 05:30 IST

Secunderabad: The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) increased the tariff rates of water tankers from July 20. A domestic tanker which was available for Rs 400 has been increased to Rs 500 and the commercial tanker from Rs 500 to Rs 850.  SCB water wing superintendent Raj Kumar said that the rates have been increased keeping in mind the corresponding increase by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB).

Last year, HMWSSB hiked the water tanker rates from Rs 700 to Rs 850 for 5,000 litres and Rs 1,700 for 10,000 litters tanker from Rs 1,400 for commercial. For domestic, the rates for 5,000 litres which was Rs 400 was increased to Rs 500 and for 10,000 litres, it was increased from Rs 800 to Rs 1,000. Residents cry hoarse against mamools. Even as the water tariff rates are increased, there is no let off from the side of people who deliver the tankers. It is customary for people to usually give money but of late, it is alleged that the delivery boys demand Rs 100 extra.

S Sainath, a resident of West Marredpally says, “We pay the money as we cannot risk not getting water. The boys demand Rs 100 per trip.” He further added, “With the increase in rates now we have to shell out Rs 600. The residents of the cantonment were promised water supply on alternate days but there is no sign.” Raj Kumar said, “We will look into the issue and put an end to this illegal activity.”
