Cantonment:  To support and fight for restoring the voting right of the Cantonment residents, the Cantonment  Congress leaders organised ‘Basti Nidra’ campaign at Chinna Kamela Ward No 1, here on Sunday. More than 1,100 residents of Chinna Kamela, who have been residing for 75 years, have been removed off their Voting Rights.

During the Basti Nidra people raised their concerns of losing their Right to Vote which could also force them to lose their homes. They explained on their pathetic conditions on how they are afraid of being evacuated. They demanded that their votes be restored. Around 550 residents participated and raised their concerns over the increased tariff of water. The ruling government has failed in keeping their promise to waive off water bills. Now that the Votes have been removed by the Cantonment Board people apprehend that elected representatives may ignore them and sooner or later they may lose their homes which they have been residing for decades.

Cantonment Congress leaders assured residents that matter is in the High Court and explained about the counter which was filed by the Cantonment Board. The Congress leaders are going to respond to it on August 2nd. They promised that they would continue to fight for restoring 28,123 people’s Right to Vote. The Congress leaders said that both local MLA Sayanna and MP Malla Reddy failed in protecting voters and even failed in petitioning to the court. Cantonment Congress Leaders invite MLA Sayanna to participate Basti Nidra with them to hear out the sufferings of residents.
