Just 15 tigers left in Telangana: Imran Siddiqui

Hyderabad: It is estimated that only around 15-20 tigers are left in Telangana, and there is an urgent need to enhance the tiger population and its habitat in the state. 97% of all wild tigers have disappeared in the last century says Imran Siddiqui of Hyderabad Tiger Conservation Society. 

He said, the feline has been a symbol of power and garce but humans have killed the animal trhat is so essential to maintain the ecological balance as its survival is integral to the whole eco-system. 

Imran adds, “The bright spot is that there is a growing awareness and more and more people are getting involved in tiger conservation. About 750 kids from 28 schools came together to participate in the activities organised by HyTiCoS and WCS India in association with Telangana forest department to commemorate International Tiger Day on 28 July.”
