Ploughs much in demand
Zaheerabad: In spite of advancement of agriculture technology, there is heavy demand for wooden ploughs in rural Zaheerabad and as such a farmer ploughing other’s land from morning 9 am to 5 pm is paid anything between Rs 1,200 and Rs 1,500 towards wages for him. However, he has to bring his wooden plough drawn by a pair of oxen.
The demand has increased as ox-drawn ploughs became a rarity in villages. Several small and marginal farmers in Koheer, Jharasangam and Zaheerabad pay wages as described above and employing farmers who own ox-drawn ploughs. Those who want to raise seedlings in seed beds, green gram, jowar and other crops are dependent on getting the lands tilled with wooden ploughs. Sowing of ground nut, red gram and cotton seeds are being done using the wooden ploughs.
