2-day Lalbazar Bonalu festivities conclude
Lalbazar: The 165-year-old tradition of celebrating Bonalu at Sri Bujili Mahankali temple, concluded here on Thursday with religious fervour. On the second day, traditional events like Rangam, processions of thottelu and phalaharambandi, potharajuveerangam etc., were organised with devoted dedication. Rangam is the main attraction of the festivities as a person called Naresh Kumar delivers oracle, predicting the future standing upon a pot, made just one hour before.
The event concluded colourfully, when the procession of ghatams is over. Several thousands of devotees and political leaders and VIPs visited the temple and sought the blessings of Mother Goddess. The celebrations marked a great coordination among several communities, who play their roles accordingly. The tradition has been maintained since more than hundred years. Members of the same families continuing the rituals as per the tradition.
According to the story, that has been in circulation about this temple, a merchant Kummari Rangaiah constructed the temple in 1905, followed by the order of the Goddess in his dream. Later, a devotee Perumakka developed the temple and installed a big idol. The descendants of Kummari Rangaiahtake the procession of Ghatams every year as a practice.
Simham Ramchander, Ganesh, Sadanand, Niranjan, Bhakthavatsalam and Rahul supervised the two-day event as main organisers. Police made elaborate arrangements to avoid any kind of inconvenience. The endowment officer of the temple Mahender Reddy installed CCTV cameras to make the premises more secure.
