Parigi: Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao had declared that villages in Vikarabad district will get drinking water supply in a fortnight at their doorstep under Mission Bhagiratha scheme.  On Saturday, he hoisted the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) flag here and paid tributes to Jagjivan Ram and later laid the foundation stone for the Rs 6.83 crore mini tankbund works of the Lakhnapur water reservoir.

The thirst of people of the district is being quenched by bringing water from Srisailam reservoir backwaters through a 230-km long pipeline. The sight of women fetching water in pitchers from a far off water source will soon fade away. The Congress leaders are resisting the development works on fear of inviting the wrath of the people. He sought to know from MLA T Ram Mohan Reddy whether the people want Mission Bhagiratha scheme or not. Home Minister Naini Narasimha Reddy said that the State would progress in leaps and bounds with the Mission kakatiya, Mission Bhagiratha and Kalyana Lakshmi schemes.

MLA TRR urged the government to complete the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme and provide irrigation facility to the ayacut lands. Earlier, Harish Rao planted a sapling at the Lakhanpur mini-water reservoir works. Education, welfare infrastructure development corporation president Nagender Goud, farmers’ coordination committee district coordinator Koppula Maheshwar Reddy, Congress leaders Narayanareddy, Krish, Anjaneyulu and Venkatesh and forest and irrigation department officials took part in the programme.
