Malkajgiri: Nafees (38) of Malkajgiri can’t walk because of disability caused by muscular dystrophy. She is confined to home. However, it has not dispirited the gusty woman, whose younger sibling Naseem also has similar handicap. This has forced their mother to take care of all household chores.

Nafees, who has studied up to VII standard, is pained by the trauma suffered by her parents. To overcome her plight, she took up painting. The spirited woman has proved to be good one going by the display she put up in Ravindra Bharati from August 3 to 5. She sent out a message that disability was limited to the body and not her spirit by completing over 300 beautiful and attractive works.

Art lovers who made a beeline to the venue were surprised by the range of Nafeez’s work. Minister Tarakarama Rao who was among those who visited Ravindra Bharati on August 4 was all praise for her self-confidence.  Thanks to the intervention of Khaja Afridi, KTR assured Nafeez to arrange a monthly assistance of Rs 10,000 to her, besides special treatment in the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS). He promised her to have an exhibition of the art works at a Metro station to enable a wider audience to appreciate them.
