KPHB colony: A new cemetery is about to come up at KPHB Colony. What used to be a dump yard is now being converted into a cemetery. This is the first modern graveyard in KPHB Colony. The place was used to dump gravel, cement and construction waste by builders. The cemetery would be developed on the lines of Mahaprasthanam cemetery at Whisper Valley. Locals are a happy lot. Mahesh, a resident says, “This is Asia’s biggest colony and people have been requesting for a good cemetery for years.”

After several complaints to the officials they have decided to construct a crematorium here which will be similar to Mahaprasthanam cemetery. Adjacent to this there is a small open place and having no option for the colony people they cremate the bodies in that area and they will continue doing this until this graveyard is made. During Hi-tech city construction work, building contractors used to dump heavy boulders and rubble was dumped here.  Taking advantage several building contractors started dumping material.

After several complaints the authorities now plan to construct a cemetery much to the delight of locals. The GHMC officials are spending Rs 2 cr. Presently, brick work for burning platform has started and this crematorium will include washroom facilities, waiting halls for the people, cafeteria and further they would come up with Wi-Fi facilities and more. By the end of this year, the crematorium would be completed and from January first week people would be able to use it. Once the civil work is done the cemetery will be handed to Urban Bio Diversity to add the beautification of the greenery in the graveyard say officials.

Sai Prasad Assistant Executive Engineer said, “This crematorium will be similar to the Mahaprasthanam cemetery and the idea is to give the facilities to the colony people.” They are suffering because there are no graveyards in the colony thus, the officials including the MLA Madhavaram Krishna Rao and the GHMC officials have agreed for the cemetery. It will be a modernised crematorium with an entrance plaza and compound wall, he added. Nandita the resident at KPHB colony said, “There are two cemeteries here which are for Muslims and Christians now that the officials have heard our issue there will be a cemetery for us as well.”
