Pipeline works come to a halt in Nacharam

Update: 2018-08-10 05:30 IST

Nacharam: The laying of underground drinking water pipelines seems to be further delayed thereby causing inconvenience to the residents and commuters as well. The Greater Hyderabad Municipality Corporation (GHMC) has started the work in the month of April but soon work was stopped and officials stated that the lack of integrated design engineers led the works and shortage of sufficient pipelines to replace the existing ones.

The GHMC has come up with the replacement of new pipelines after receiving complaints from the residents about frequent pipeline leakages.  N Abhishek, Assistant Engineer of GHMC says, “With considering the complaints given by residents, the project was started with the allocated fund of Rs 25 lakh. There is a delay in work due to less workforce and shortage of underground pipelines.” Yet, to receive response from the local contractor about the number the pipelines needed to proceed further. The places which include Ambedkar Nagar, Errakunta, Gandhi Nagar and few other areas are suffering with the delayed works, he added.

“Now, with new tender in place and availability of engineers, the work will begin shortly,” said N Yadagiri Rao, GHMC Deputy Commissioner. The locals are suffering with pipeline leakages. Locals of Ambedkar Nagar say, “There are no proper pipelines in our colony and witness pipe leakages now and then. The GHMC officials have been saying the work will start within 10days for the past four months.  Despite several complaints nothing much changed. The local contractor is turning a blind eye to the issue and no response from the GHMC authorities.”
