Musheerabad: Local MLA and state BJP president Dr K Laxman on Monday credited the Narendra Modi government with giving a pride of place to physically challenged by introducing a special Act for their welfare, besides increasing their quota in education and employment.

Addressing a meeting organised by the All-India Disabled Rights Protection Forum at Thyagaraja Gana Sabha, he criticised the TRS government for not opening a government school for them. He alleged that only four lakh of the ten lakh physically challenged have been issued certificates so far.

Laxman expressed anguish over the government’s failure to do anything for bettering their lot after discussing their problems in the State Assembly. He demanded six per cent reservations for the physically challenged as being implemented in MP and Chattissgarh, while seeking separation of the Disabled Welfare from the Women and Children’s Development department, besides provision of free transport facility to them. Among those present were K Nageswara Rao, Ram Reddy, Vijay, Parasuram.
