  • Ill-maintenance of warehouse cause for insect and pest menace

Musheerabad: Residents of Achayyanagar locality in Ramnagar division who are facing a swarm attack from insects (‘lakka purugulu’) originating from nearby Civil Supplies Department warehouse on Thursday poured out their woes, stating that they are unable to withstand the havoc caused by them.

Residents Lakshmi and Sujata told The Hans India that they have been facing this problem for years because of the poor maintenance of the godown by the department.

‘It has become serious in the recent past’, they pointed out, while pressing for the immediate shifting of the warehouse.

They complained that the insects were crawling all over their houses, including utensils, food items, clothes.

They expressed apprehension that the stored LPG cylinders amid houses could cause a mishap, giving an uncertain feeling among the residents.

Warehouse in charge Anand, while speaking to THI, stated that the insect menace was increasing whenever PDS items were brought from places like Vangapalli, Nagireddipally, in Bhuvanagiri district, and stored here.

He said a pesticide was being used to check the insects after Chief Rationing Officer Bala Umadevi and the Civil Supplies Commissioner had inspected it.
