Police install check-posts for trouble-free Bakrid
- The cops will keep vigil 24X7 on highways and connecting roads and check for vehicles carrying animals illegally

- The seized animals will be released only after festivities, after conducting a thorough investigation

Kanchan Bagh: With just one week remaining for Bakrid (Eid-ul-Azha) festival, the police department is making all the arrangements to ensure that no prohibited animal is transported inside the City by setting up check-posts at all the major junctions which connect Highways.
Apart from setting up of check-posts in the South Zone area, the police have also set-up in Central Zone to avert any possible trouble from any quarter during the second big festival of Muslims which will be celebrated on August 23.
Barricades have also been erected on roads particularly in parts of Old City to stop and check all kinds of vehicles transporting animals.
“The policemen will keep a vigil 24X7 in highways and connecting roads and will stop all the vehicles coming from nearby villages or districts,” said a police official
According to officials, almost all the police stations in South Zone have come up with check-posts in areas like Santosh Nagar, Kanchanbagh, Chandrayangutta, Peeli Dargah, Barkas, Vattepally, Jahangirabad, Bandlaguda, Puranapul, Mangalhat, Bahadurpura and several other locations.
In Santosh Nagar Division, most of which comes under Kanchanbagh police station limits, two check-posts, one in Champapet (near Owaisi Hospital) and another at Defence road have been set-up.
In each of the check-post a SI, an ASI and some constables will be present. For instance at Santosh Nagar, a team of 25 policemen have be posted for the two check posts.
All the transport vehicles particularly with closed-tops will be checked and the details including driver’s name, vehicle number and the type of goods will be recorded by the policemen.
The provisions for policemen include a tent and torches for checking the vehicles during night hours.
Every vehicle carrying animals will be checked and animals like cow, calf will be seized. A case will be booked for carrying the prohibited animals and the animals will be moved to GHMC’s facility in Auto Nagar and L B Nagar.
“Even if the intention of procuring cow or calf for rearing and brought for slaughtering during Bakrid, they will be seized and thorough investigation will be conducted and released only after the festival.
All these efforts by policemen are to ensure that the festival is celebrated without any trouble or communal problems,” said N Shankar, Inspector, Kanchanbagh.
It may be mentioned here that recently, the City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar during a meeting also cautioned the ‘cow vigilante groups’ taking law into their own hands during Bakrid (Eid-uz-Zuha) festivities.
He suggested denizens to dial 100, if they find any norms are flouted or in case of any trouble during the festivities.
