Hyderabad: Hyderabad marked the 152nd birth anniversary of the sixth Nizam Nawab Mir Mahboob Ali Khan (1869-1911) with rich tributes at his grave at Mecca Masjid here on Friday. Early in the morning, family members of Nizam and people from different walks of life offered floral tributes.

Mir Mahboob Ali Khan was born to Nawab Afzal ud Dowla Bahadur, fifth Nizam of Hyderabad on August 17, 1866. He became the ruler of Hyderabad State when he was two years and seven months old in February 1869 and was given full ruling powers since February 1884.

The sixth Nizam is remembered for his contribution in the fields of irrigation, infrastructure and administrative reforms. He is remembered for personally supervising the relief operations of 1908 Musi floods that left 15,000 killed and rendered 80,000 homeless. He even participated in a special puja performed to propitiate the river in spate.

Mohammed Safiullah of Deccan Heritage Trust who never fails to pay tribute to the erstwhile Nizams of Hyderabad State shared an interesting aspect, “Such is the respect that even today a large section of the Marwadi community from Kabutar Khana pay floral tributes and have a picture of the sixth Nizam in their puja rooms.”  He further added, “It is a finest example of Ganga-Jamuna tehzeeb.”
