Community hall work dragging on for months
- Locals complain of use of poor quality material in construction
- They want to enlighten KTR about the sad state of affairs through social media
Ramnagar: The construction of community hall is not yet completed in the neighbourhood Colony of Ramnagar division which has been going on for the last nine months.
Home Minister Naini Nnarsimha Reddy, local MLA Dr K Laxman and Corporator Srinivas Reddy had launched the work nine months ago.
Local residents, who mostly belong to 400 middle and poor families, told The Hans India that poor quality of sand, gravel and cement were being used in the construction of the building.
They said that because of the negligent attitude of the contractor the work has remained static at the basement level. As a result, the pillars of the building, the community hall has been weakened, the residents point out. They face hardship in the absence of a venue for conducting meetings and functions.
Expressing ire at officials for their complacent attitude although funds for the building have been sanctioned, they point out that the community hall had been sanctioned after repeated representations were submitted to people’s representatives.
But they are ‘extremely displeased’ with the pace of work which has been dragging on for months just for digging pits to erect pillars.
A local resident, Ravi, told THI that a complaint regarding the work has been lodged with the corporator.
He said Municipal Administration Minister K Tarakarama Rao would be enlightened with the sad state of affairs, including lack of safety, by the residents through the social media. Ravi said the residents were worried over the safety aspect since children play in the area abutting the pits.
The corporator, who is also a GHMC Standing Committee member, informed THI that he had inspected the building site following the complaints by the residents.
He warned of serious action against the contractor, stating that there would be no hesitation in blacklisting him.
