Nacharam: The graveyard works at Gandhinagar Snehapuri Colony at Yellkalagunta in Nacharam has come to a grinding halt. Officials say that the lack of a plan is the reason for stopping work the compound wall was built.

N Abhishek, assistant engineer of GHMC Nacharam division said, “The graveyard works started a month ago with a budget of Rs 89 lakh. Rs 39 lakh has been spent on construction of the compound wall. Once the design is provided from GHMC it would be assigned to the contractors. It will take around two months for all the developmental works to complete.”

“The walls of the compound, bathrooms, and waiting room of this 50-year-old graveyard are in bad condition. We have installed new gates for the compound and will soon put up a security system. The remaining work could be delayed as the GHMC officials have not yet given the design to proceed further,” said local corporator Shanti Saizen Shekhar.

“We are planning to build a new platform in the crematorium to ensure that people who come to perform the last rites do not have to wait for long. We are also looking forward to expand the waiting rooms so as to accommodate large number of people in it”, she said.
