Sewerage overflow, potholes plague colonies of Tolichowki

Update: 2018-08-22 05:30 IST

Tolichowki: Uneven roads, overflowing sewerage and disposing of garbage in open plots is a common scene in residential colonies of Tolichowki.

Fathima colony: The vehicular movement in Fathima colony has deteriorated in the past few months as asphalt on roads has worn out leaving several potholes on the road.

It has become worse in the rains as water filled potholes and stagnated water causing inconvenience to residents and visitors to the colony.

Exasperated by the inconvenience, a cloth merchant from the colony, Syed Nayeem filled the potholes at his own expense. “I had to fill up the potholes with mud as customers were hesitant to visit my store due to potholes,” said Syed Nayeem.

More than a bumpy ride, the road is also scattered with rubbish. "This condition of the road has remained the same for the past six months and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is never bothered," said Sheikh Ahmed, a resident of Fathima colony.

Paramount colony: Open plot in Paramount colony has turned into a dumping ground with local residents alleging that garbage was being dumped here from the neighbours.

Residents are worried about the Bakrid festival as people would dump animal leftovers. The open plot has turned into a nuisance as it is leading to foul smell and is encouraging mosquito breeding in the area.

“GHMC should allot a sanitation worker to clean the place up before
bakrid,” suggested Arif, a storekeeper at pet store in Paramount colony.

Akber Bagh: For the past one-month sewerage overflow in Akber Bagh right in front of the IPS International school is bothering students, commuters and residents with unbearable stench.

“The drainage system is that of the school and the school management cleaned it once or twice, but sewerage overflow never stopped," said a rice trader from the area.

“The condition is worsening with rainfall making it difficult for commuters." said, a street vendor, Jalil.
