TITA launches ‘Folkthon’ to introduce traditional dance forms to techies

Hyderabad: Telangana Information Technology Association (TITA) launched 'Folk-A-thon' for the techies on the occasion of World Folk Day. Telangana Department of Language and Culture Director Harikrishna Mamidi and TITA President Sundeep Kumar Makthala unveiled the logo of 'Folkthon' at Ravindra Bharathi on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Sundeep Kumar Makthala said, Folkathon was designed to focus on certain key aspects. The initiative would provide scope for artists to showcase the historical and traditional dance forms of Telangana such as Perini and cultural legacy of Burra Katha to the IT professionals as well as allow them to learn these art forms. The aim is to expose these forms to the IT professionals so that they could learn and get closer to the community and its traditions. TITA has been taking initiatives such as digital literacy and environmental protection by involving and sensitizing the IT professionals.

Sundeep also added, the folk artists associated with the State Department of Language and Culture would perform at the IT corridor and also coach the techies.  The software engineers and their families were eligible to take part in Folkathon. The programme would be conducted every fortnight during the weekends. Each part of the IT corridor will host one form of activity. The first edition of Folkathon will be announced on September 15. The IT professionals interested to view the performances and get trained in the folklore can obtain details from the respective admin departments of their companies.

In addition to the weekend programmes, training will also be imparted on the weekdays for an hour. Techies can participate in the specially designed programmes at their convenient timings. TITA Vice President Ranapratap Bojjam, General Secretary Srilatha Chinthala, Spokesperson Venkata Vanam, Manoj Thatikonda, Shravan, Kantha Rao, Praveen Madipoju, Supraja, Karthik Kumar, Adla Satish, MN Rao, Bhoosarapu Srinivas and others attended the programme.
