Shortage of lecturers afflicts govt colleges in Vikarabad
Vikarabad: The government degree and junior colleges across district are facing severe shortage of lecturers. As a result, intermediate and the undergraduate students studying in these colleges are unable to follow the curriculum.
The situation has further worsened due to the recent transfers of lecturers. The transfer of about of 40 percent of full-time lecturers of the district to the colleges located in Hyderabad and its surrounding areas was a blow to the students. Lack of promotions to the existing lecturers and non-availability of full-time lecturers are taking its toll on education.
Since the last four years, even contract lecturers have not been appointed, compounding the crisis ever further. Only guest lecturers were appointed every year; however the appointments this year could not be done due to legal complications. In this scenario, conducting classes has become extremely difficult.
The situation is even worse in government degree colleges. Although the degree colleges in Tandur and Kodangal require not less than 14 lecturers each, not even a single full-timelecturer is available; this explains the gravity of the crisis facing by the undergraduate education in the district. The degree college at Kodangal has only four contract, one OD and nine guest lecturers. The posts for Hindi, Libraray and Principal are vacant.
The college at Tandur has four contract and eight guest lecturers. The college at least had two to three full-time lecturers before the transfers but with the recent transfers, the college managements are finding it difficult to run the classes. In Kodangal, the college had four full-time lecturers before the transfer, but it now has only one lecturer! On the other hand, the meager allocation of funds making it difficult to create basic infrastructure required for the colleges.
Government junior colleges across the district also face similar problems; shortage of full-time lecturers afflicts junior colleges as well. The junior colleges at Tandur, Parigi and Vikarabad also face severe shortage of lecturers and this may impact pass rate in these colleges.
