Imran khan leads in Pakistan’s election result 2018

ISLAMABAD: On Thursday, the authorities of Pakistan told the results of the elections would be delayed as the opponents are saying that the elections were rigged.

Imran Khan, who was a cricketer, was leading in the partial count of the elections. The secretary of Election Commission of Pakistan(ECP), Babar Yakoob, said, “There’s  no conspiracy, nor any pressure in the delay of the results. The delay is being caused because the result transmission has collapsed.”

The exact date of the results cannot be set but it would be released as soon as possible, he added. Imran's party, the Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) was leading in the 30% of the entire votes counted till now. Reports say that they are leading in 113 of 272 contested National Assembly constituencies.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, party of the jailed Nawaz Sharif, is leading in 66 constituencies and the son of two time PM Benazir Bhutto, who was assassinated, led in 39 constituencies. His the head of the Pakistan Peoples Party.

The PTI is still appearing to fall short of majority in the National Assembly. Four local TV channels estimated that the PTI would win over 107 and 120 seats of 272 elected seats while the PML-N was estimated to win over 42 and 69. Though this statistics are only based on the 20% of the counted votes.

“ Congratulations to the nation on a new Pakistan! Prime Minister Imran Mr.Khan,” said Fawad Chaudhry, party’s spokesperson. 

Shehbaz, Sharif’s brother, did not accept the count and said, “It is a sheer rigging. The way the people’s mandate has blatantly been insulted, it is intolerable. We totally reject this result. It is a big shock to Pakistan’s democratic process.

371,000 soldiers have been placed at polling stations across the country, which is nearly five times more than in the last elections in. 2013. Mr.Khan got lucky as Mr. Sharif got jailed on corruption charges earlier this month.

Khurram Dastgir Khan, the outgoing PML-N Defence Minister, tweeted that the results forms were not given at many polling stations and called “blatant, callous, shameless rigging”.

Sherry Rehman, the PPP Senator, said, “This is the warning bell of a serious threat. This whole election could be null and void and we don’t want this.”

Many parties complained similarly in public. Mr. Khan, after casting his vote in the capital in Islamabad said, “This is the most important election in Pakistan’s history. I ask everyone today to be a citizen, cherish the country, worry about this country, use your vote.”

He also has denied the allegations by PML-N that he is getting help from the military. It has ruled Pakistan for a major period and no other party has ruled it for that long and it still sets key security and foreign policy in the nuclear armed nation. The army also denied these allegations.

The PML-N said it was campaigning to protect the “sanctity of the vote”, which is a reference to he political interference by the military.

Maryam Aurangzeb, the spokeswoman of PML-N, expressed her thoughts on the complaints about the vote counting. She said, “We have serious reservations. Our political agents have been pushed out and results are being withheld.”
