Sanitary workers seek removal of biometric attendance system

Khammam: District joint secretary of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) Manda Venkateshwarlu alleged that the government was robbing the workers in the name of biometric system.

A meeting was held with sanitary workers to discuss various issues they were facing, at AITUC office in Khammam on Wednesday. Speaking at the meeting, Venkateshwarlu said many sanitary workers were facing lot of problems with meagre salaries.

“The KCR government had introduced biometric system for the sanitary workers and is cutting the amount from their salary. Instead of introducing such system for those who are drawing lakhs of rupees as salaries, the TRS government is playing with the lives of innocent sanitary workers who doesn’t even have proper knowledge of such new methods,” he criticised.

Alleging that many irregularities were taking place in paying salaries to workers, he said officials were turning a blind eye to the issue despite several requests.

AITUC will lodge complaint in Labour Court in support of sanitary workers if the officials failed to take any action immediately against those involved in irregularities. He demanded the government to uninstall biometric devices immediately and maintain register for taking attendance of sanitary workers and not to cut the amount from their salaries.

“If the government continues with the biometric system, then AITUC will intensify the movement to teach the government a fitting lesson,” he warned.

Union leaders Boddu Papa Rao, Kukkala Hanumanthu, S K Hussain, Kandula Mahesh, G Srinu, CH Thirupathi and Kampati Thirupathaiah were present along with sanitary workers.
