CPI(M) flays TRS government

Bhadrachalam: State CPI(M) Secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram on Wednesday accused the Telangana Rastra Samiti (TRS) government of creating a row between the Adivasis and the Lambadas.

Speaking to press persons here, Veerabhadram questioned the government as to why it failed to convene an all-party meeting to resolve the commotion. He contended that although the Girijan-Lambada clashes would benefit the ruling party it was wrong to air to such views.

The CPI(M) leader conceded that injustice has been done to the Adivasis and that he desired that the issue should be resolved in a peaceful manner. He accused the government of adopting the same policy on the issue of differences between the Mala and Madiga communities about the categorisation.

He questioned the Centre as to why it is not giving the green signal to the Scheduled Caste (SC) categorisation when all parties had extended support to it. ‘It appears that the government does not want the disputes between the Girijans and Dalits to be settled.’

He strongly criticised Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for maintaining that Girijans have no rights over the forest wealth, describing him as a ‘symbol of ignorance’. ‘KCR has also forgotten the ten per cent reservations promised to them. Having realised that in the event of the promises made to Girijans not materialising they would come together the government is now causing a row between the Girijans and the Lambadas’, Veerabhadram asserted. He wondered as to why KCR remained silent when there were deaths during clashes between the two communities.

Veerabhadram claimed that the administration was not being run as desired by the people after the formation of Telangana. He said the government, after making many promises to better the lot of the Girijans, had failed to honour them and ‘forgot about them’. The CPI(M) secretary charged that while failing to allot the promised three-acre land to each Dalit and Girijan family the government was snatching their lands. ‘Through the police it is resorting to repression on Girijans not allowing them to take up cultivation in ‘podu’ lands’.

Referring to the BC Sub-plan, Veerabhadram asked KCR why he was not making it legal while seeming to shower love towards BCs. He accused the CM of not recognising the most backward class communities and failing to allocate Rs 1,000 crore for their benefit.

He said the party would strive to form an alternative front of SC, ST, BC and Minorities castes/organisations, which constitute 93 per cent of the population, rather than depending on the government doles. ‘This front would move forward with the objective of achieving political power for the for these communities’.

Among those present at the press conference were Bhadrachalam MLA Sunnam Rajaiah, leaders A J Ramesh, party town secretary B V Venkat Reddy, M B Narsa Reddy.
