Gadwal: A farmer of Beerlabeedu village of Dharur mandal in Gadwal district was accidentally electrocuted early in the morning. According to villagers Papanna (55) went to his farm early in morning at 6 o clock, to irrigate his agriculture field, found out that the motor pump was not functioning due to lack of power.

Realising this, the farmer went to the power transformer and turned it off by holding it with a towel. After repairing it, the farmer tried to restart the transformer, however the farmer attracted the electrical earthing due to induction of the sparks from the active power line. With heavy voltage of 33/11 Kilo Volt electric power, the farmer was electrocuted on the spot.

Later, when the farmers of the surrounding area went to the transformer to find out what is wrong with the power transformer, they found Papanna lying unconscious. The farmers immediately informed the police officials, who later conducted a ‘panchanama’ and shifted his dead body to the Gadwal Area Hospital for post mortem.

The deceased farmer is survived with two children one boy and a girl. The villagers are demanding the government to come to the rescue of the farmer’s family and help them by providing ex-gratia to the farmer’s family.

“Many poor farmers are losing their lives due to faulty transformers. The Electricity Department staff is also not attending the grievances of the farmers on time and we are facing lot of problems as the power lines and electric transformers breakdowns are happening very frequently. We demand the government to announce ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh and protect the victim’s family,” said Timma Reddy, a relative of the deceased farmer.
